hmmm.... a lovely series that I highly enjoyed..

Heyy there!!

It has been awhile since I last posted, but time seems to have escaped me… not to mention I spend all my spare time reading.  Which is where today’s post comes into play…

I am a ridiculously slow reader – I like to think that it means that I can absorb more details of the text than someone who reads it in half the time because I actually take the time to see everything that there is to see in the text  ;D

So, you may be wondering which book and series I am talking about??  And that is what I am about to tell you and then, as I promised previously, I shall go in depth about it, as I really enjoyed both of the books in the series that I just read (there is going to be at least another book!!  ;D)

And the series is::

FALLEN!!!!

So the story pretty much follows the life of Luce – Lucinda Price – who is living her umpteenth life.  The story begins as Luce is committed to Sword & Cross, something similar to a mental institution, where she meets the gorgeous Cam and the wounded Daniel Grigori.

At first, Luce feels a strong pull towards Daniel, almost as though they had known each other since forever, but he continues to blow her off, so she ends up falling for Cam.  That is, until Daniel decides that it is time for Luce to know the truth…

Luce’s many near-death encounters continually force her into a position where Daniel is made to save her.  Finally, after much frustration, Daniel tells Luce the truth..

Daniel is a fallen angel.  He fell from heaven after he fell in love with Luce thousands of years ago.  Every time they meet, he knows that they won’t have much time together because, just after she turns seventeen, her love for Daniel is soo strong that when they kiss or touch or sometimes just talk, Luce bursts into flames, leaving nothing behind but a pile of ashes.

Eventually, at the end of the novel, just after Daniel tells Luce the truth, she finds that Cam is also a fallen angel except that he plays for the devil, not God.  He and Daniel, not to mention half of the students at the school who also turn out to be fallen angels, battle, fighting to what seems like the death, but really just until they tire, seeing as there are very few things that can actually kill a fallen angle.

Luce and her good friend Penn – Pennyweather Sykle Vann-Lockwood – are rescued by their teacher, Miss Sophia.  The only thing is that they aren’t exactly as safe with Miss Sophia as Daniel had thought or hoped.  Penn is killed and Luce nearly sacrificed.

So there are these things called Announcers, or as Luce calls them ‘the Shadows’.  They appear to be the ones that burn Luce every time she gets to close to Daniel, or in her present life, the ones who burn the guys that she gets too close to.

Daniel, along with Arianne and Gabbe, saves Luce from the evil clutches of Miss Sophia.  Mr Cole, their band teacher, a human who just happens to be on Daniel’s side, takes Luce away.  Which is pretty much where the story ends.. for now..

And then the sequel starts, almost exactly where it left off, with Luce and Daniel in love.  But it’s not quite the same.  Daniel and Cam have signed a treaty.  Luce hates Cam.  Luce and Daniel are in love but on the outs.

Daniel takes Luce to a school where, she realizes, there are nearly a hundred Nephilim – people with angel blood who can do awesome things.  Luce also finds that Angels and Demons can get along harmoniously, until the final battle when they will have to kill each other.

Her new teachers, Francesca and Steven, teach them how to manipulate the Announcers.  A heads up on Announcers, they hold the history and the past, but only thing related to the person who summoned them,

Luce and her new friends, Shelby and Miles, learn how to manipulate the Announcers so that Luce can see her past, which she needs to learn more about because it is the only way that she and Daniel can truly be together.

According to the truce between Daniel and Cam, neither of the boys is allowed to see Luce for eighteen days, but Daniel and Luce are having trouble with it.  They seem to be sneaking around, but they always end up fighting.  There are certain things that Daniel can’t and won’t tell Luce because he is too scared that she will spontaneously combust.

Luce steps into her past, only to meet one of her sisters from a past life, only to have that sister recognize her when their hands brush each other and Luce is thrown into several visions from that past life.  It is then that Luce gets doubts of her love for Daniel and the life that she is living.

It is in this moment of weakness that Miles makes his move.  He kisses Luce while Daniel is watching.  Their relationship takes a slight bump, but they don’t get to talk about it because he flies away.

Mr Cole organizes for Luce to go home for Thanksgiving, and she ends up taking nearly all of her friends, human, angel, demon or Nephilim, with her.  It is on this trip that she realizes that Daniel is ‘the one’ and that she doesn’t want to live without her.

But Shelby’s ex-boyfriend turned out to be an Outcast, and they want Luce to get their way back into Heaven.  A gigantic fight breaks out at Luce’s house while her parents are out and Luce desperately wants to help.

In the end, Miles saves the day, but Cam stops the plan but the Outcasts get away.  As Luce comes out of the shadows, only to step into an Announcer and into her past.

In the epilogue, we learn that Daniel has trust issues and Luce is the only one he trusts.  He then pulls up his own Announcer ad steps into it, desperately searching for Luce.

The next in the series is Passion, which sounds promising… Maybe Daniel will find Luce and they’ll relive the past tgether and then move on to the future…  But that’s just me with my fairy tale endings…

In my opinion, this series is seriously addictive!  It’s heard to stop once you start, but, again, it’s an easy read and highly fun.  The ideas that were presented within the novel were outstanding and highly influential.  It is definitely a book/series that you should read if you are looking for something different and freshly new.

Stay tuned for a comparison of the Fallen series with the Hush Hush series, peeplets, because that will be coming to this space soon!!
